We encourage everyone to go at their own pace, and the class is designed to allow each member to do as much or little as they can manage. Especially if you have not exercised in a long time, we encourage you to start slow and build up your fitness. The  most valuable thing you can do is start.

We have members with varying body types and fitness levels, everyone is welcome and our members love meeting newcomers.

Yes – We may require a doctor’s clearance (that we will provide you) to ensure you are exercising safely and doing what is best for your body. However, we also allow our members to do what they can and look at alternatives if there are specific exercises they cannot manage.

Once you have completed your post-surgery rehabilitation, Silver Fit is a great way to stay fit and keep your muscles and joints strong and mobile.

We are targeted towards older adults and while most members are in their 60’s and 70’s, we have range of ages, from their 50’s all the way into the 80’s. If you feel the benefit of Silver Fit – you are welcome!

Class sizes are between 10 and 20 members, and are based on the size of the venue.

Exercise is multifaceted, and it is vital to incorporate all the aspects of training into your exercise routine. This includes strength exercises, balance exercises, flexibility exercises and cardiovascular exercises. Based on this, walking only provides the cardiovascular component, and so it is not enough as a standalone exercise routine, but needs to be included with strength, balance, and flexibility training.

The American College of Sports Medicine gives the guideline that all adults should do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise (e.g., a Silver Fit class, a brisk walk etc.) a week. For example, you can reach this by doing 3 x 50 minutes a week, or 21 minutes a day.

Regular physical activity produces several favourable responses that contribute to healthy and active ageing. Exercise has been shown to have positive effects on cognitive and physical functions, as well as on mobility and stability. The Silver Fit exercise programme has been proven to reduce the risk of falling and fractures, improve the ability to carry out day-to-day activities and increase confidence and independence. Older adults who have an active lifestyle enjoy an improved quality of life in their later years.
