At Silver Fit, we believe in the power of real women, real resilience, and real transformation. Every day, our incredible members share their strength, their stories, and their personal fitness journeys with us. Their experiences remind us that fitness isn’t just about the body; it’s about mental strength, community, and the joy of movement. Here are some of the inspiring stories from the women in our Silver Fit community that keep us motivated and moving forward.

Tips for Women Starting Their Movement Journey
- Start small, start slow: You don’t need to do everything at once. Begin with light exercises and listen to your body.
- Focus on form: Quality over quantity makes all the difference, especially in joint-friendly movements.
- Be kind to yourself: Progress takes time. Celebrate every win, no matter how small.
- Stay consistent: A little movement regularly is far more effective than a lot of movement occasionally.
Join a class: Having a supportive group and a knowledgeable instructor makes the journey more enjoyable and sustainable
Real Talk: Silver Fit Stories
Cornelia Hilton
Cornelia’s story perfectly captures the supportive and fun atmosphere of Silver Fit classes. Not only has she become fitter and slimmer, but the sense of community, along with fun activities like the end-of-year walk and Christmas party, truly shows how Silver Fit is about more than just exercise—it’s about building lasting connections and making fitness enjoyable.
“I enjoy attending Silver Fit classes at Roosevelt Park community centre. I have been a member since 2019. I am much fitter and slimmer now. Our instructor tells us that we are his advanced class. He is very helpful and is willing to listen to our suggestions on what exercises we would like to be added. He also takes into consideration any injuries or problems we may have and gives us alternate exercises to do. We enjoy his music selection, and many of us join in singing along while doing our exercises. He has a great sense of humour, which comes out in the music he chooses. At the end of the year, the centre closes early, so we go walking. The year before last, we walked in Mark’s Park, and last year in the Johannesburg Botanical Garden. We also had a little Christmas party, which was most enjoyable.”

Jenny’s enthusiasm for Silver Fit and the friendships she’s built reflect the sense of belonging that comes with being part of this community.
“I’ve been a member of Silver Fit for 5 years, and what a wonderful experience it has been! I’m fitter, stronger, and able to balance better, which are important things to prevent falling and weakness in our golden years! I always feel refreshed after a solid workout, whether in a group or online. The members in the group are so supportive and full of fun. I love it, and I plan to do this for as long as I can. Thank you, Silver Fit.”

“Eric’s classes in Weltevreden Park, Roodepoort, are awesome. You get a full-body workout, great music, and a great group of gals. I’m 65 years young and I’ve been with Silver Fit in Weltevreden Park, Roodepoort for nearly two years. It’s a great workout that you can manage at your own pace. I’ve lost weight, centimetres, and even developed some muscle. Do yourself a favour and give it a try—you won’t be sorry!”

Simone Adrienne Carter
Simone’s journey with Silver Fit highlights the value of consistent, tailored workouts. Since joining in 2019, she’s found that the live classes, along with the online and recorded options, are an ideal fit for her needs. It’s not just about physical health—Simone has built lasting friendships and enjoys the social aspect just as much as the fitness benefits. Silver Fit has truly become an integral part of her life.
“As a 68-year-old who has been with Silver Fit since 2019, I can vouch that this concept works! The live classes are varied and fun, and incorporate strength, balance, and aerobics at an appropriate level for older adults. There are also online and recorded classes if we can’t attend the live sessions. I enjoy it more than the major gyms from my younger years, and love that our dynamic instructor herself is a great example of fitness at age 63. Members have befriended each other and socialise together. We truly have fun both in class and socially. Silver Fit has become a very important part of my life!”

Why Movement Matters for Women
The benefits of movement go far beyond fitness, especially for women navigating midlife and beyond.
Improves Daily Strength and Mobility
Functional exercises help with everyday tasks like lifting shopping bags, climbing stairs, and getting up from the floor with ease.
Supports Mental Well-being
Exercise boosts mood, reduces anxiety, and promotes better sleep. Many women say they feel “lighter” after class, in more ways than one.
Builds Confidence
Taking control of your health is empowering. As women grow stronger physically, their self-esteem and independence grow too.
Protects Bone and Joint Health
Movement is essential for maintaining healthy bones and reducing the impact of arthritis. Weight-bearing and resistance exercises help preserve bone density and ease stiffness.
